IPA CIS delegation participates in the 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The IPA CIS delegation led by IPA CIS Council Secretary General Yury Osipov, participates in the 139th IPU Assembly. The Assembly is taking place in Geneva on 14-18 October.

The IPA CIS delegation includes Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Ibod Rakhimov, Chairman of the IPA CIS PC on Legal Issues, Chair of the Committee of Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Legislation and Human Rights Emomali Nasriddinzoda, member of the IPA CIS PC on Science and Education, member of Committee of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Legislation and Human Rights Nargiz Rakhmonova.

Around 800 MPs from 140 countries, including 50 speakers, attend the 139th IPU Assembly.

On 14 October, the meeting of the Bureau of the Women Parliamentarians and the IPU Committees meetings were held.

On 15 October, the opening ceremony of the Assembly took place in Geneva, as well as the plenary discussion on the main theme.

On 16 October, within the framework of the Assembly, the Special Session dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights will be held. The Assembly will also discuss the role of parliaments in ensuring arms control, the problems of migration and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The deliberations will also specifically focus on the protection of MP's rights.

The main theme of the five-day forum is Parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change.
