Representatives of the diplomatic corps of St. Petersburg visited the Tavricheskiy Palace on the eve of the International day of Parliamentarism

Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in St. Petersburg at the IPA CIS HQ. The event was dedicated to the International day of Parliamentarism annually celebrated on 30 June.

In his complimentary speech, Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted the importance of the holiday for the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. He highlighted that they united parliamentarians of the CIS for the development of international parliamentary dialogue.

According to the Secretary General, this date is an additional reason to reflect on the possibilities of parliamentary diplomacy and to enhance the parliamentary solidarity. He noted that only in the conditions of constructive interparliamentary cooperation could be achieved SDG’s and solved international and regional problems.

Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aidyn Jafarov was awarded with the Medal of the CIS TV and radio company "Mir" and the IPA CIS the "Tree of Friendship". Aidyn Jafarov expressed his sincere gratitude to the members of the IPA CIS Council and IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko for the honour. He said that he wanted to address this award and conveyed sincere thanks to the whole organization. He also noted that the Tavrichesky Palace, where the first State Duma of the Russian Empire had begun its work in 1906, was the birthplace of parliamentarism in all the CIS countries.
