On 27 April 1906, the State Duma of the Russian Empire started to work. It was the first democratic institution in the history of the country, which laid the foundations of parliamentarism.
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko congratulated colleagues on the Day of Russian Parliamentarianism. According to the Chairperson, the development and future of the country greatly depends on MPs of all levels.
Also, congratulations were sent by Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.
The holiday was established in 2012. Its purpose is to draw attention to the activity of the Federal Assembly and legislative bodies of the constituent entities, to popularize the work of parliamentarians.
