Experts Discussed Arctic Agenda

On 24-25 November 2022, the IX International Arctic Legal Forum “Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Arctic: Legal Aspects” was held in St. Petersburg. This year, the Forum focused on the prospects of social and economic development of the Arctic and legal potential.

The Forum featured the plenary session “Global Trends in the Arctic: Society. Ecology. Law”, as well as a number of roundtables discussing the current issues of shaping and implementing the main areas of state policy in the Arctic, its legal support and the role of international legal regulation, and the relevant challenges of the Arctic territories and their legal dimension.

Representatives of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation greeted the participants of the Forum: Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Law and State-Building Andrey Klishas, Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Economic Policy Konstantin Dolgov, Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Elena Zlenko, member of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Social Policy Anastasia Zhukova, member of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Elena Shumilova. The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was represented by member of the State Duma Committee on Development of Far East and Arctic Dmitry Pogorely.

The event was also attended by the representatives of the executive and legislative bodies of the Russian Federation constituent entities, leading academia and experts. Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva took part in the event on behalf of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council.

The Forum participants approved the draft resolution of the IX International Arctic Legal Forum “Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Arctic: Legal Aspects”.
