12 November is Constitution Day in Azerbaijan
12 November 2013
Adopted in 1995, this is the fourth national Constitution in Azerbaijan reflecting the realities of the modern world. The constitutional period in the Republic covers mostly the Soviet period.
After independence arose the need for a new constitution. The then President of Azerbaijan Geydar Aliyev led a national commission mandated to write a new text. The new Constitution was legitimized through the national referendum of 12 November 1995. Consisting of 5 sections, 12 chapters and 158 articles, it laid the foundations of the modern statehood of Azerbaijan.
12 November is Constitution Day in Azerbaijan, but it is still a workday, according to the national labor code.
