The International Day of Democracy was established by the UN General Assembly in 2007 and is celebrated annually on 15 September. The commemorates the 20th anniversary of the First International Conference of New or Restored Democracies, which was celebrated in 2008.
The holiday always reminds us that democracy is an expression of people’s interests, it is based on inclusiveness, equality and equal participation, and is one of the basic elements of ensuring peace, sustainable development and human rights.
On this day, various educational events – lectures, seminars, round tables on the topic of democracy are held all over the world.
