Armenia celebrates 30th anniversary of Independence

A number of festivities will take place in Yerevan this day.

Under the decree of the Supreme Council of Armenia, a referendum on discontinuing the USSR membership and the establishment of an independent state was held on 21 September 1991. A total of 94.99% of the country’s citizens voted for independence. Two days later, the Supreme Council declared Armenia an independent and sovereign state.
