Azerbaijan Celebrates Independence Day

The Independence Day is a national holiday in Azerbaijan, celebrated annually on 28 May.

 This day, in 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed for the first time and the Declaration of Independence was signed. This day is also called the Day of Azerbaijan Statehood Revival. On this day, the Declaration of Independence was signed in Tiflis, which remains the basis of the Azerbaijan state structure.

Until 2021, the holiday was called the Day of the Republic. On 15 October 2021, the draft law on Independence Day was adopted at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since them, 28 May was declared as the Independence Day.
