Azerbaijan Celebrates Independence Day

The Independence Day is a national holiday in Azerbaijan, which is celebrated every year on 28 May.
This day, in 1918, saw the proclamation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This day is also called the Day of Azerbaijan Statehood Revival. On this day, the Declaration of Independence was signed in Tiflis, which remains the basis of the Azerbaijan state structure.
Until 2021, the holiday was called as the Day of the Republic. On 15 October 2021, the draft law on Independence Day was adopted at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic. Since then, 28 May was declared as the Independence Day.
