Belarusian MPs Endorsed Holding of Presidential Elections on 9 August 2020

During an extraordinary meeting on 8 May, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus voted for holding the presidential elections on 9 August 2020. 

Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreychenko stressed that the MPs would have to do serious organizational and political work to ensure that the election of the President of the country is carried out in an open, democratic and constitutional way. 

Chairperson of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Holding Republican Referenda Lidia Yermoshina noted that the upcoming election campaign would be held in difficult circumstances, for that reason, considering all factors, the most optimal date for holding the presidential elections, in her opinion, would be 9 August 2020. According to the Chairperson of Commission, it is planned to spend 36.8 million rubles on the electoral campaign.
