Belarusian Parliament Began Its Extraordinary Session

On 27 January 2022, the extraordinary sessions of the Council of the Republic and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly took place in the Republic of Belarus.

Speaker of the upper chamber Natalya Kochanova, during the speech to the members of the Council of the Republic, focused on the upcoming events to be held in the country – the Message of the President of the Republic of Belarus to Belarusians and the National Assembly, as well as the constitution referendum. According to the Speaker, after the adoption of the draft of the updated Constitution, the MPs would have to carry out large-scale work to bring more than 100 laws in line with the amendments and additions. 

Opening the first meeting of the extraordinary session, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko also elaborated on the preparation of a draft of the updated Constitution. According to him, a broad public discussion of the draft had taken place in the country, and large-scale information and explanatory work was underway.
