Head of Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan Assumed Powers of President

After the end of the seven days stipulated by the legislation of the country, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan signed the resignation of President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian. According to the country’s Constitution, the duties of the head of state will be performed by the Speaker of the Parliament until the election of a new President. Today Alen Simonyan assumed the powers of the head of state.

According to the press service of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan has become Acting Speaker of the Armenian parliament.
