Countering Terrorism Discussed at Parliamentary Conference in Lomé

On 19 January, the High-Level Parliamentary Counter-Terrorism Conference on Youth Engagement was held in Lomé (Togolese Republic). The Conference was organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in cooperation with the National Assembly of the Togolese Republic, the African Parliamentary Union (APU), the Interparliamentary Committee of the Group of Five for the Sahel (IPC G5 Sahel), and the Shura Council of the State of Qatar.

The event discussed the role of the youth in countering terrorism and violent extremism, as well as possible legislative support and assistance to prevent radicalization among young people.

The Conference was attended by African youth leaders, members of parliaments, representatives of parliamentary assemblies, civil society organizations, as well as experts and policymakers.

Head of the Department for International Relations of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation Maksimillian Selyutin, and staff members of the Department for International Relations of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat took part in the event as observers via videoconferencing.
