Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Proposed to Hold Snap Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in Kazakhstan

During the opening of the third session of the Parliament, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a message to the people. The President proposed to implement a number of economic reforms and carry out a “reset of the public administration system”. He also came up with an initiative to hold early presidential elections this fall. After the elections, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev intends to submit an initiative that limits the powers of the President to one term for consideration by the Parliament. He also proposed to hold elections to the Mazhilis and maslikhats at all levels in the first half of 2023.
