Law of Republic of Uzbekistan on Psychiatric Care Approved

On 23 April 2021, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held the 14th
plenary session, at which a discussion of the Law on Psychiatric Care took place.
International experience, legal norms of the USA, the Russian Federation, the Republic of
Belarus and other countries were reviewed in the preparation of this document.
According to the press service of the chamber, the adoption of this law will provide an
opportunity to improve the regulatory framework in all areas of mental care, including provision
of voluntary, involuntary and compulsory mental care, ensuring cooperation between the
relevant ministries and departments in this area. The law protects persons with mental disorders
from unjustified interference in private life, from discrimination in society, as well as from
socially dangerous actions of such persons.
