Maulen Ashimbayev Elected Speaker of Senate of Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan

On 4 May, the members of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan unanimously elected Maulen Ashimbayev as the Speaker of the upper chamber of the Parliament. Earlier this day he was appointed member of the Senate by the Presidential decree.

Since December 2019, he has worked as the First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In 2012-2018, Maulen Ashimbayev was a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and headed the Committee on Foreign Affairs. As a member of the Kazakh delegation in the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation he actively participated in the consideration of the relevant issues of the foreign policy, which are high on the agenda both in the Commonwealth and on the international arena, as well as in the examination of the outcomes of the monitoring the electoral campaigns in the IPA CIS Member Nations and the development of the inter-parliamentary dialogue.
