Oliy Majlis of Republic of Uzbekistan Discusses Establishment of Youth Parliament

The Commission of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Youth Affairs and the Youth Union of Uzbekistan held the “Youth and Parliament” videoconference on 27 May 2020, where they discussed the role of the youth parliament worldwide, as well as the necessary measures to ensure effective youth outreach.
The meeting was chaired by First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov and brought together MPs and senators of the Oliy Majlis, heads and representatives of the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, the National Center for Human Rights, the Institute for Legislative Issues and Parliamentary Research at the Oliy Majlis and the youth wings of all political parties.
The meeting noted that at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on 19 September 2017 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev drew particular attention to the youth issues, including the development of the draft UN International Convention on the Human Rights of Youth.
The participants of the meeting discussed the establishment of the Youth Parliament at the Oliy Majlis, its future aims and objectives. These include the expansion of the youth participation in legislative process, strengthening the youth political activity, raising the love for the Motherland, crime prevention, involvement in culture, art, sport, etc.
In addition, the participants discussed the role of political parties in raising the level of legal and political literacy of the youth. The representatives of the youth wings of political parties of the Republic of Uzbekistan noted that work in this direction has not been fully completed, and expressed their suggestions for improving the situation.
