Role of MPs of Russia and Tajikistan in Development of Interregional Cooperation Noted at Forum in Dushanbe

The VIII Interparliamentary Forum “Tajikistan-Russia: the Potential of Regional Cooperation” was held in Dushanbe. The plenary session of the Forum was chaired by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali.
The head of the Upper Chamber of the Russian parliament noted the brilliant organization of the Forum, thanked colleagues from Tajikistan for cordiality and hospitality.
Valentina Matvienko noted that the countries are progressively developing relations of strategic partnership and alliance. According to her, this is facilitated by trusting relations between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who support inter-parliamentary cooperation.
She also emphasized the strengthening of interregional cooperation. More than 70 subjects of Russia maintain direct trade and economic ties with Tajikistan. Over 80 agreements have been concluded in such spheres as machine building, transportation, energy, mining, agro-industrial complex and others.
According to Valentina Matvienko, the Russian language has the status of a language of interethnic communication in the Constitution of Tajikistan. The day before the Federation Council approved the ratification of the agreement, which will become the legal basis for the establishment of the International Educational Center for Gifted Children in Dushanbe.
Rustami Emomali noted that the intensive inter-parliamentary dialog promotes the development of strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Forum included thematic sections devoted to regional security issues, development of bilateral trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation with the participation of MPs, heads and representatives of the regions of Russia and Tajikistan. Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy took part in the events.
As part of the visit to Tajikistan, the delegation laid flowers at the Eternal Flame memorial located in Victory Park.
