Russian MPs Adopted Law on Liability for Violation of Legislation on Foreign Agents

On 16 February 2021, the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation adopted in the second and third readings a law on administrative fines for violations of legislation on foreign agents.

According to the document, the dissemination of information in the media or on the internet about an individual foreign agent, as well as materials produced by him/her without appropriate marking about his/her special status will be punished by a fine.

According to the press service of the chamber, the Code of Administrative Offenses was also supplemented by a provision that provides for similar fines for disseminating information about a non-profit organization or public association included in the register of foreign agents, or materials produced by them without labeling required by the law.
