Russian Senators Adopted Address to Parliaments of Foreign States and Peoples of World on 75th Anniversary of Victory over Nazism

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation adopted the Address to Parliaments of Foreign States and Peoples of the World on the 75th Anniversary of the Victory Over Nazism. Speaker of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev served as the keynote speaker at the 482nd meeting of the upper chamber.

According to the Address, the Federation Council welcomes the Joint Statement of the President of the Russian Federation and the President of the United States Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Meeting on the Elbe of 25 April 2020, supports the annual adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the Resolution “Combating Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and Other Practices that Contribute to Fueling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance”, as well as the proposal to adopt the UN General Assembly Resolution on the 75th anniversary of the End of World War II, which has already been sponsored by about 40 UN members.

The Federation Council calls on the parliaments of foreign states and peoples of the world to support the initiative to recognize the Victory over Nazism in World War II as the world heritage of humanity, and the monuments to fighters against Nazism in all countries as a common world humanity memorial.

The Federation Council strongly condemns the desire of certain political forces in the world to shield the true culprits of the war, downplay the USSR role in defeating Nazism, rehabilitate those who opposed the liberators along with Hitler’s executioners, served the Nazi occupation regime in European countries, participated in the monstrous Holocaust and other crimes against humanity.

The adopted Address will be sent to the foreign parliaments and the United Nations.
