Shavkat Mirziyoyev Proposed to Conduct Constitutional Reform in Republic of Uzbekistan via Referendum

On 20 June 2022, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with members of the Constitutional Commission on the proposals for amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the implementation of organizational measures.
During the meeting, the President expressed his vision of constitutional reforms. In his opinion, the updated Constitution should create a solid legal basis and become a reliable guarantee of the country’s long-term development strategies and its future prosperity. He also made proposals to expand the powers of the Oliy Majlis to form a government and ensure its effective functioning, transfer part of the presidential powers to the Oliy Majlis.
