Speaker of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic Met with Russian Parliament Leadership in Moscow

The Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin during the visit to Russia. The parties discussed the development of bilateral relations and strengthening engagement at international inter-parliamentary platforms.

During the talks held in the upper house of the Russian parliament, the parties noted an extremely high level of bilateral strategic partnership since the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan signed the Declaration on Allied Cooperation in 2022.

Valentina Matvienko mentioned regular meetings at different platforms, including the CIS and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The parties discussed interregional interaction and the legal framework of Russian-Azerbaijani partnership. The Speaker of the upper chamber proposed to open the Consulate General of Russia in Azerbaijan.

Valentina Matvienko reminded memorable dates, significant to both states, which will be celebrated in 2023-2024 and called on to support joint youth projects. .

The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council invited the Azerbaijani delegation to take part in the anniversary X Nevsky International Ecological Congress to be held this May at the headquarters of the Assembly.

Sahiba Gafarova thanked the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council for the important work to strengthen friendship and partnership and establish cooperation between the CIS Member Nations in various fields.

The press service of the State Duma reports that Sahiba Gafarova and Vyacheslav Volodin signed the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic.

 Both speakers noted that the Agreement would help to reach a new level of comprehensive cooperation between the State Duma and the Milli Majlis.

As part of the visit, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis visited the Alexander Garden in Moscow and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
