Speakers of Parliaments of Commonwealth Conducted Bilateral Meetings in St. Petersburg

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova.

The meeting was conducted in the headquarters of the IPA CIS – the Tavricheskiy Palace, where on 21 of November the session of the IPA CIS Council was held.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including parliamentary collaboration, as well as interaction on international platforms. Valentina Matvienko discussed the development of interparliamentary cooperation with Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova.

The Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation also held a meeting with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev.

The discussions focused on cooperation aimed at implementing high-level agreements on the development of economic and cultural-humanitarian ties between the two countries. The head of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament highlighted the key event of the year in the context of bilateral relations – the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Republic of  Kazakhstan.

Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali.

Valentina Matvienko discussed the development of interparliamentary cooperation with Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaevа.

During the meeting, it was noted that the relations between the two countries, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests, are characterized as strategic partnership and alliance. The Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation emphasized that the high level of relations has been set by the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan.

Natalya Kochanova held meetings with Sahiba Gafarova, Maulen Ashimbayev, and Tanzila Narbaev. The effectiveness of parliamentary cooperation was discussed by Maulen Ashimbayev with Tanzila Narbaevа and Emomali Rahmon.
