Uzbekistan Celebrates Independence Day

On 31 August 1991, at an extraordinary session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent, a decision on the declaration of the state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted, according to which the country acquired full state power. The same decision declared 1 September to be the Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Since then, every year the main state holidays has been ceremoniously and colorfully celebrated throughout the country. Large-scale celebrations take place in the Alisher Navoi National Park in Tashkent, and concerts, theatre performances and sporting events are organized in all cities of the Republic.

To celebrate Independence Day, the weekend will extend from 31 August to 3 September inclusive.
