VII Inter-Parliamentary Forum “Tajikistan – Russia” Takes Place in Dushanbe

Today, the Seventh Inter-Parliamentary Forum “Tajikistan – Russia: Potential for Interregional Cooperation” kicked off in Dushanbe. The event was attended by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko, who is on an official visit in the Republic of Tajikistan.

As part of her official visit to Dushanbe, Valentina Matvienko held a bilateral meeting with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali. The parties discussed in detail the development of inter-parliamentary relations and noted similar positions of Moscow and Dushanbe on almost all issues on the international agenda, which allows to successfully strengthen regional stability and develop economic integration both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international structures – the UN, the CIS, the CSTO , the SCO. Valentina Matvienko noted the tradition of consultations between parliamentary delegations at such authoritative international platforms as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the IPA CIS, the CSTO PA and recognized the monitoring of the electoral processes across the Commonwealth as a significant area of ​​cooperation. Rustami Emomali added that Russia was one of Tajikistan’s key strategic and trade partners and stressed that the countries had developed a significant basis for mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.

Valentina Matvienko also met with Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda. Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda noted that the Tajik-Russian relations had a high level of interaction based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and trust. In turn, Valentina Matvienko expressed hope for continued cooperation to strengthen foreign policy coordination. She thanked Tajikistani MPs for their active work in the IPA CIS, participation in monitoring of elections and referendums across the Commonwealth and invited them to participate in the IPA CIS ceremonial events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Assembly to be held this March in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
