Valentina Matvienko: Issue of Ecological Security Will Be a Priority Within the 9th Nevsky Ecological Congress

A meeting of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and the senators with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin took place today.

During the event, the parties discussed the relevant issues of legislative activity, as well as the interaction between the government and MPs.

Valentina Matvienko stressed that the previous year had become a real test for public authorities. “One can assume with confidence that the government has managed to maintain social, economic and financial stability, and carry out all the instructions of the President to support citizens and the economy clearly and without delay” – she said.

The Speaker of the Federation Council also noted the increased efficiency of the interaction between MPs and the government. In her opinion, “the situation with the preparation of both laws and bylaws has dramatically improved. At the same time, the efficiency, speed of work, and its quality have also increased”.

The Speaker of the Federation Council touched upon the issue of environmental safety. “It is a national priority, the basis for the prosperous development of our country. The situation with the oil spill in Norilsk and the multibillion fine for the Nornickel indicates that it will no longer be possible to conduct business according to the principle “after me, is a flood”.

According to the press service of the chamber, Mikhail Mishustin noted that effective working relations have been established between the government and the Federation Council, as well as close cooperation on a variety of relevant issues. He thanked the senators for their systemic support in developing the Unified plan for achieving the national development goals and reported on the new measures to support businesses from the most affected industries. According to Mikhail Mishustin, all the issues raised by the senators during the meeting would be carefully considered by the government.
