Valentina Matvienko Pays Tribute to Leningrad Citizens Fallen in Siege Years

On the Day of complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko laid flowers at the memorial stela to the Leningrad Front on Poklonnaya Hill.

Valentina Matvienko noted that for the first time in many years she was not at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery that day. “I could not help but come to one of the memorial places referring to the defense of Leningrad, in order to pay tribute to the memory of the heroic defenders of Leningrad, the citizens of Leningrad, who survived, won and defended the city despite inhuman hardships”.

She called 27 January the Leningrad Victory Day, a special and important date, when we remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country, the freedom of the city, who did not let the enemy into the sacred Leningrad land.
