All Draft Legislations in Republic of Uzbekistan to Undergo Gender Analysis

In accordance with the recommendation of the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, the Cabinet of Ministers of the country approved the Regulation on Gender Analysis of Legal Acts and Draft Legislation.

The draft laws and regulations concerning all areas of life will undergo the gender-based legal analysis. Its purpose is to assess the compliance of the documents with the principles of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

A draft legislation, that undergoes a gender-based legal analysis, must comply with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, generally accepted international standards, as well as the Law on Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men and other relevant legal acts.

This Regulation is aimed at avoiding norms that discriminate directly or indirectly on the basis of gender, restrict in any way the rights and interests of women while ensuring gender equality or could be interpreted in such a way.
