Azerbaijan Republic celebrates Constitution Day

The Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic was adopted in 1995. It became the 4th Constitution of Azerbaijan, which marked the new historic transformation of the country.

The constitutional building process in the Azerbaijan Republic is mostly rooted in the Soviet period. After gaining independence there was a need for a new Constitution. To this end, a special commission headed by President Heydar Aliyev was created. The fundamental law of the country was adopted through a referendum on 12 November 1995.

1995 Constitution laid the foundation for state-building in the Azerbaijan Republic. It consists of 5 chapters, 12 sections and 158 articles.
