Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda Headed Majlisi namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of Republic of Tajikistan

The first session of the lower house of parliament of Tajikistan of the sixth convocation, with the participation of President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, began in Dushanbe. During the session, Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda was elected as Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda is a member of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan. His party received a majority in the lower house of parliament - 46 out of 63 seats. The Agrarian Party won seven seats, the Party of Economic Reforms – five, the Communist Party – two and the Democratic Party – one seat.

The elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan were held on 1 March 2020. The IPA CIS observers conducted long-term and short-term monitoring of this election campaign. The observers included MPs of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members. Following the monitoring of the elections, IPA CIS observers concluded that the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan were held in line with the national legislation and generally recognized democratic principles and norms of the organizing and holding free and fair elections, as well as international commitments of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda was born in the Rasht district on 5 July 1956. He graduated from Tselinograd Agricultural Institute. He began his career as an engineer and land surveyor at the project institute “Tajikgiprozem”. Over the years, he worked in the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Office of the President of Tajikistan, was the Chief of the National Space, Geodesy and Cartography Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan "Tochikkoinot", Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan, Director of the Agency of Land Recreation, Geodesy and Cartography under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In 2010-2015, he served as Chairman of the State Committee on Land Recreation and Geodesy of the Republic of Tajikistan, in 2016-2020 – as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan.
