Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Republic Legitimized Online Meetings

On 17 April, at the plenary session, the MPs of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic approved the laws providing the possibility of holding the meetings of parliament and its committees through video conferencing. The parliamentarians also adopted amendments, according to which quarantine restrictions on free movement in the country do not apply to deputies.

From 14 March, Azerbaijan introduced a regime of social isolation, and from 24 March a special quarantine regime, which was extended until 4 May 2020.

At the plenary session, the law «On Establishment of Orders and Medals of the Azerbaijan Republic» was also amended with regard to the creation of the anniversary medal of the Azerbaijan Republic “75 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (1945-2020)”.

The MPs considered a number of other laws in the first reading. During the plenary session, Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova called on parliamentarians to join the blood donation campaign initiated by First Vice President of the Azerbaijan Republic Mehriban Aliyeva. On 18 April, in the building of the Azerbaijan parliament, MPs and Milli Mejlis staff, led by Sahiba Gafarova, took part in the blood donation campaign to help people with hereditary diseases and blood diseases. According to the press service of the Milli Mejlis, a special medical team examined the participants of the charitable action before the event.
