Republic of Tajikistan assumed chairmanship of the CIS

The meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State on 11 October 2017 decided that in 2018 the Republic of Tajikistan would preside, through its representative, at the Council of the CIS Heads of State, the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, the Council of the CIS Foreign Ministers, the CIS Economic Council, the Council of the Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations at the Statutory and Other Bodies of the Commonwealth and the Economic Policies Commission at the CIS Economic Council.

Russia and Turkmenistan will co-chair the CIS in 2018.

In accordance with theConcept of the CIS Chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2018 and the action plan of its implementation, the work will be focused on promoting cooperation to fight terrorism, extremism, neo-Nazism, drug trafficking, economic crimes, and as the prevention of illegal migration and trafficking in human beings.

In the economic sphere the efforts will be invested in the implementation of the Plan of Actions to Implement the Third Stage of the CIS Long-Term Economic Strategy until 2020, and the implementation of the provisions of the Free Trade Agreement.

In agriculture, the priority measures will focus on ensuring food security. To strengthen agricultural cooperation, there is a need to address logistical issues and develop projects on the implementation of innovative solutions across various segments of this domain.

One of the main priorities is the promotion of cooperation in social, labor and migration spheres.

Humanitarian efforts will include the coordination of work in the field of science, education, culture, health care, and communication.
