Russia is celebrating National Unity Day

Russia is celebrating the public holiday which commemorates the popular uprising that expelled Polish occupation forces from Moscow in November 1612.

The National Unity Day became a public holiday in 2005.

On 4 November 1612 regiments from Nizhny Novgorod took Kitay-Gorod and expelled Polish invaders from Moscow. That was the turning point in the time of troubles followed by the freedom for the rest of the country.
