Russian Parliamentarians celebrate the Day of Parliamentarism

The celebration date of 27 April was chosen for a good reason. On the same day in 1906, the First State Duma of the Russian Empire, the pioneering democratic institution of the country, started its work. The first four Dumas held their sessions in St. Petersburg, Russia's capital at that time, in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The Day of Russian Parliamentarism has the purpose to mainstream and promote the activities of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and legislative bodies.

The Tavricheskiy Palace, the IPA CIS headquarters, is considered to be the ‘cradle of the Russian Parliamentarism’.

The Day of Russian Parliamentarism has been celebrated since 2013, after President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed the federal law establishing this regular occasion.
