Today Tajikistan celebrates National Flag Day

The National Flag Day is a national holiday celebrated in Tajikistan since 2009.

The flag has three colors: the red strip symbolizes freedom and independence, while the white one represents peace and stability and the green one stands for prosperity.

In 2011, the national symbol of the Republic of Tajikistan was once included in the Guinness Book of Records as having the world's highest flagpole (165 m) installed in Dushanbe (the capital of Tajikistan). The record lasted until September 2014.

Historians argue that the flag has been one of the symbols of the statehood of the Tajiks from ancient times. According to the majority of researchers, the history of the flag dates back to more than four thousand years ago. The first flags appeared in Babylon, Egypt and China. A flag similar to modern was created by the Aryan peoples.
