Vyacheslav Volodin: Joint Law-Making Can Bring Peace to Ukraine

On 10 March, Member of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of the Inter-Fractional Association of Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace” Viktor Medvedchuk held a meeting to discuss the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted the importance of bilateral dialogue between the two countries and emphasized that the implementation of the Minsk agreements can be facilitated through parliamentary dimension and law-making issues.

“This is an important issue, as it implies adoption of the laws that would bring peace to Ukraine, and we must do what it takes in order to achieve this end”, said the Speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament. He also stressed the need for German and French colleagues to join the process, initiated by Ukrainian side.

Viktor Medvedchuk informed the Russian side on the work within the “parliamentary dimension of the Normandy format”. He mentioned that he had held negotiations with his colleagues in Paris and Berlin and had discussed the possible agendas of the meetings that might take place in April-May this year. After the meeting with the colleagues from the State Duma the working group on the procedure and agenda will be established, which may facilitate the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
