First Meeting of New Convocation of Majlisi namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli of Republic of Tajikistan Scheduled for 17 March

47 out of 63 MPs are nominated by the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, 7 by the Agrarian Party of Tajikistan, 5 by the Party of Economic Reform of Tajikistan, 2 by the Communist Party of Tajikistan, 1 by the Democratic Party of Tajikistan.

Leader of the Communist Party of Tajikistan Miroj Abdulloyev, as the oldest MP, will open the meeting. The first session will elect the Speaker, Deputy Speakers, Heads of parliamentary standing committees and commissions. It is expected that President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will address the MPs.

The elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan were held on 1 March 2020. The IPA CIS observers conducted long-term and short-term monitoring of this election campaign. The observers included MPs of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members. Following the monitoring of the elections, IPA CIS observers concluded that the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan were held in line with the national legislation and generally recognized democratic principles and norms of the organizing and holding free and fair elections, as well as international commitments of the Republic of Tajikistan.
