14th Plenary Session of TURKPA held in Astana

Today, the 14th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) was hosted by the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The session was dedicated to the theme “TURKTIME: The Role of Parliamentary Diplomacy.”

The session was attended by parliamentary delegations from the member states of the Organization of Turkic States – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, as well as Northern Cyprus as an observer and Uzbekistan as a guest. Representatives of partner organizations were also present. The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented at the session by member of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport, Chair of the Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Social and Cultural Development and Science Nurtore Zhussyp.

At the opening ceremony, thematic speeches were delivered by Speakers from both chambers of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov and Maulen Ashimbayev, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Turgunbek uulu Nurlanbek, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nuriddin Ismoilov, and Speaker of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ziya Öztürkler.

The meeting discussed the reports and recommendations of four TURKPA Commissions, as well as the TURKPA Women Parliamentarians Group and the TURKPA Young Parliamentarians Group, also a number of model laws were adopted.

The final reports on the work of the TURKPA missions to observe the elections in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2024 were approved.

The session also approved the budget for 2026 and elected a new Secretary General of the organization. An Azerbaijani Parliament member Ramil Hasanov was elected to this position.

In conclusion, the Astana Declaration of the 14th Plenary Session of TURKPA was adopted.
