Art Community from Commonwealth Countries Discussed Role of Russian Theater Abroad

The “Russian Theater Abroad as an Institute of Russian Culture” International Conference took place at the Tavricheskiy palace, the IPA CIS headquarters. The event was held as a part of the 25th International Festival of Russian Theaters “Meetings in Russia”, which traditionally opened at the site of the Baltic House Theater-Festival.
The welcoming speech to the conference participants was delivered by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko. She noted that the festival participants have done a lot to increase interest in the rich Russian culture and preserve a unified cultural space in the region.
Welcoming speech of Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy was read by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Elena Kuzina. He noted that over the past quarter of the century, the “Meetings in Russia” festival has earned a high reputation among professionals and audience.
Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Boris Piotrovskiy pointed out that yesterday the “St. Petersburg – the cultural capital of the Commonwealth” was officially launched in the city. It is planned to hold 160 events, the participants of which will get acquainted with the national traditions and cultural special features of the CIS countries, said the Vice-Governor.
Elena Kuzina presented the medal “IPA CIS 30 years” Baltic House Theater-Festival General Director, Vice President of the Association of Workers of Russian Theaters Abroad Sergey Shub for the great personal involvement in the formation of a common cultural space in the region.
The festival is organized by the Baltic House Theater-Festival and the Association of Workers of Russian Theaters Abroad with the support of the CIS Humanitarian Action Trust Fund. The IPA CIS traditionally supports the holding of the event for the 25th time.
