CIS Experts Discussed Measures to Counter Political Radicalization

On 24 March 2021, the Research Institute for CIS Security Studies provided a venue in Moscow for a joint extended meeting of its Academic Board with the Scientific and Advisory Council under the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. The event was entitled “Activities of Terrorist and Extremist Organizations Aimed at Violent Change of the Constitutional Order as a Threat to the State and Public Security of the CIS Countries”.

The meeting brought together representatives of the relevant authorities of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as members of the Academic Board of the Research Institute for CIS Security Studies  and experts from leading research and educational institutions of the Commonwealth.

Executive Secretary of the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges Stanislav Korostelyov represented the IPA CIS Council Secretariat at the event.

The meeting participants discussed new methods of encroachment on the constitutional order and public safety, the issues of protest activity and political radicalization, the role of modern media in provoking mass riots. Measures to counter political radicalization and violent overthrow of the constitutional order and issues of cooperation between the competent authorities of the CIS Member Nations in this area were also discussed.
