CIS Practices in Water Resources Management Presented at Nevsky Ecological Congress

Meetings of the roundtables are taking place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters – within the framework of the Ninth Nevsky International Congress. One of the roundtables is devoted to “Rivers without Borders: Integrated Management of Water Resources”, a highly relevant topic for the CIS Member Nations.
The meeting was moderated by First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin.
The roundtable was also attended by Head of the Federal Agency for Water Resources Dmitry Kirillov, Chairman of the Central Council of the All-Russian Society of Nature Conservation, Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Russia Vyacheslav Fetisov, Chairman of the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Development of the Aral Sea Region Boriy Alikhanov, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on Agriculture and Food Industry, Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Radu Mudreac, Vice Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akhmetzhan Primkulov, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Finland Jaana Husu-Kallio and Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment of the Estonian Republic Harry Liiv.
The participants discussed the issues related to cross-border water partnership of the CIS Member Nations, reaffirmed the need to preserve water resources and drew attention to the existing challenges, such as the shrinking of the Aral Sea.
The roundtable brought together members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, representatives of regional ministries and agencies, research institutes, leading relevant universities and experts.
