Ninth Nevsky International Ecological Congress Kicked Off in Tavricheskiy Palace

Today, the Ninth Nevsky International Ecological Congress opened in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov delivered welcome addresses during the opening ceremony.
Andrey Yatskin reminded that the Nevsky International Ecological Congress continued the global environmental dialogue and brought together parliamentarians, representatives of relevant federal and regional public authorities, leading experts and the academia.
Alexander Kozlov stressed the high level of efforts in the field of environment protection and expressed confidence that the outcomes of the discussion would serve as a basis for new decisions aimed at ensuring environmental safety.
The Congress is taking place in St. Petersburg on 27-28 May 2021 and is co-organized by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
Today, the Congress provides the venue for 10 thematic roundtables dedicated to the integrated management of water resources, environmental education and ecotourism, exchange in the field of national strategies and projects associated with environmental protection, new climate policy, forest resources, issues of the Arctic, green energy, circular economy, challenges and solutions in the field of environmental safety and green funding.
The plenary session of the Congress “Ecology of the Planet – Sustainable Development” will take place on 28 May.
