II CIS Games Ended in Belarus

For 10 days, more than two thousand athletes from 22 countries competed for 246 sets of medals. The official flag of the Games was handed over to Azerbaijan, where the III CIS Games will be held in 2025.
Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, MPs of the Republic and other guests of honor took part in the closing ceremony of the II CIS Games held on 13 August in Minsk.
Sergey Lebedev congratulated all the participants and fans on the success of the II CIS Games.
The Russian team took the first place in the overall medal standings, winning 149 gold, 89 silver and 50 bronze medals. Second place went to the team of Belarus (48-78-110), and third place to Uzbekistan (28-25-53).
The Azerbaijan Republic has become the host country of the III CIS Games. The decision was unanimously made by the Council on Physical Culture and Sport of the parties to the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Physical Culture and Sport of the State Parties of the Commonwealth of Independent States at the meeting held in Minsk the previous days. Representative of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat at the CIS Executive Committee Igor Borovko took part in the meeting.
In 2025 Ganja will host the III CIS Games, the city is preparing a great festival for athletes. In 2026, Almaty, which has repeatedly hosted major sporting events of global and continental scale, will deservedly become the organizer of the next Games.
The II CIS Games took place in 11 cities of Belarus in 20 sports. Over 2000 athletes from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as 13 other countries invited as guests took part in them.
The I CIS Games were held in Kazan in 2021. More than 1500 participants came to the capital of Tatarstan, including about 1100 athletes from 9 CIS countries.
