Year of Russian Language as Language of Interethnic Communication Started in CIS

The decision to declare 2023 the Year of the Russian Language as the language of Interethnic communication was made by the Council of the CIS Heads of State on 18 December 2020.

On 28 October 2022, in Astana, the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth countries approved an action Plan for its implementation.

The results of the research “The Index of the Russian Language in the World and CIS Countries” will be presented in the states of the region.

Also, the III International Congress ” CIS Language Policy”, the online conference ”Russian Language in the CIS Cultural Integration” (Azerbaijan), the conference ” Impact of Globalization challenges on the Russian Language” (Armenia), the international research and practice conference ”Russian Language in the Modern Bilingual Space” (Belarus), international roundtable ”Russian Language in the CIS: Prospects for Development” (Kyrgyzstan), international conference ”Russian Language in the Intercultural Dialogue of Central Asian countries” (Tajikistan) and many other events will be held within the framework of the thematic year.

With the participation of the IPA CIS, a roundtable ”Russian is the Language of Interethnic Communication” will be organized in St. Petersburg.

Consortium “Russian Language in the CIS” is also planned to be established on the basis of the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language.

An online Russian language school for young people of the CIS countries will work during the year. A professional skills competition will be organized for teachers of the Russian language of the CIS countries, philologists of the Commonwealth countries will be able to take part in the ”Pushkin Camp” seminar.

In 2023, work on the establishment of an organization to support and promote the Russian language will be also continued in accordance with the initiative of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
