Position of Secretary General to Appear at CIS Executive Committee from 1 January 2023

On 1 January 2023, the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State on renaming the position of the Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary to the CIS Secretary General comes into force.

At the summit held on 14 October 2022 in Astana, the heads of the Commonwealth states supported the initiative of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to rename the position of the Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary to CIS Secretary General from 2023.

The CIS heads of state also decided to extend the powers of Sergey Lebedev as head of the CIS Executive Committee for another three-year period.
