Alexey Sergeev attends international symposium Lessons of Parliamentarism. Historic Perspective and Current Practices – 2016

The third international conference Lessons of Parliamentarism. Historic Perspective and Current Practices — 2016 opened in the Grand Hall of the Mariinsky Palace in St. Petersburg.

First Vice-Chair, Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, Representative of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg at the Federation Council Lyudmila Kostkina read out the welcoming message of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko to participants and guests of the Conference.

The conference also heard a welcome message on behalf of Speaker of the State Duma Sergey Naryshkin and remarks from Chair of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Vyacheslav Makarov.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev in his intervention reminded the guests that the Tavricheskiy Palace used to be the venue of the first Russian State Douma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation 110 years ago. He added that years later the Palace had become the headquarters of the IPA CIS. Today, the Doumskiy Hall of the Tavrichesky Palace provides a venue for the regular meeting of the Council of Legislators which became a significant tradition. He also shared on the current efforts of the IPA CIS to preserve the historic legacy of the Tavrichesky Palace and the first Russian Doumas.
