CIS experts discussed issues of cooperation in countering terrorism

On 16-17 January 2019 a meeting of the expert group on coordination of the Draft Program of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Combating Terrorism and Other Violent Manifestations of Extremism for 2020–2022 took place in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the CIS Joint Chiefs of Border Guards, the CIS MoI Council, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, the Secretariat of the Council of the CIS Defense Ministers, and the CIS Executive Committee. The representative of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat also participated in the event.
The experts discussed, refined and coordinated the draft Program with due account of the comments and proposals received from the CIS member nations and sectoral cooperation bodies. The experts decided to submit the document for consideration by the Council of the CIS Heads of State in due course, and forward the minutes of the meeting to the Commonwealth countries for internal negotiation.
It should be noted that the Program of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Combating Terrorism and Other Violent Manifestations of Extremism for 2020–2022 will become the eighth similar document adopted in the CIS. The current Program covers 2017–2019.
The draft Program is aimed at further cooperation of the CIS member nations, statutory and sectoral cooperation bodies in that area.
The set of activities proposed by the Program builds on the provisions of the Treaty on Cooperation of CIS Member States in Combatting Terrorism of 4 June 1999 and the Concept of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Combating Terrorism and Other Violent Manifestations of Extremism of 26 August 2005.
