Commonwealth devises new ways to fight criminal money laundering

Speaker of the lower chamber of the Tajik parliament Shukurdjon Zukhurov moved for a vote on the ratification of the CIS Treaty on Fighting the Legalization of Criminal Assets and Financing of Terrorism signed on 5 October 2007 in Dushanbeh.

The Treaty provides for the exchange of information, rules of criminal asset forfeiture, countering the financing of terrorism and provisions for joint operations.

On 17-18 April, the IPA CIS PC on Defense and Security plans to review proposals for a revised model law on Fighting the Legalization of Criminal Assets, Financing of Terrorism and WMDs, while the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges will work on the article-by-article commentary to this draft.
