Commonwealth experts discuss drug trafficking in Minsk
19 February 2014
On 18-19 February, the CIS Execom in Minsk welcomes the meeting of the Expert Team on Drafting the Commonwealth Statement to Preserve and Enhance the International Drug Control Framework.
The draft document proclaims that the CIS heads of state are strongly committed to keep and enhance the international drug control framework rooted in the three fundamental UN Conventions and reiterate the role of UN’s Commission on Narcotic Drugs as a guiding entity in this field.
The Commonwealth Members condemn the attempts to undermine this framework and legalize trade in drugs.
The Statement confirms continuing a constructive dialogue on ways to step up international efforts in line with international commitments. Also, the document stresses the need to support law-enforcement with socio-economic action, including anti-crime measures, resolving to sound and sustainable development of society, etc.
When finalized, the draft Statement will be duly submitted to the Council of Heads of State.
