Cooperation of the CIS member nations in combating illegal migration discussed in Minsk

The CIS Executive Committee held the 19th session of the Joint Commission of the Parties to the CIS Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Illegal Migration.

According to the press-center of the Executive Committee, the Commission members discussed the experience in prevention, detection, suppression, and solving of crimes related to illegal migration, as well as carrying out joint investigations and special operations on prevention of illegal migration by the CIS competent authorities. The Commission also considered the issues of organizing information exchange related to the status of migration in the CIS member nations and channels of illegal migration, as well as creation and operation of specialized temporary detention institutions for foreign nationals arrested until further determination of their legal status.

The participants also discussed the course of work on drafting and signing of bilateral readmission agreements, as well as practical aspects of the implementation of existing agreements, integration of foreign citizens in society or receiving countries, and prevention of offences by foreign citizens and persons without citizenship. Besides, they analyzed the interaction experience of the competent organs of the CIS countries in the field of administrative expulsion or deportation, as well as removal of illegal migrants and personal identification of foreign citizens, persons without citizenship and those arrested without identification documents.

To improve the regulatory framework of cooperation the Commission also focused on the issues of its inventorization and developing guidelines on countering illegal migration in the CIS, as well as the draft provision regulating personal identification, proof of citizenship and procedures of issuing documents giving the right to return to the state of residence.
